How many people fit in a gazebo or marquee?

As a guide, allow about 1 square metre per person for a standing event and 1.5 to 2 square metres per person when guests are seated at tables. A 3x3m gazebo suits about 9 people standing or 4 to 6 seated, while a 6x12m marquee suits about 72 standing or 36 to 48 seated.

Gazebo and marquee buying guide

1. Choose pop-up or event marquee

Choose a pop-up gazebo if you will set it up often, such as for markets, sport or the beach. Choose an event marquee when you need more room for a party or wedding and have time to assemble the frame.

2. Decide if you need walls

Leave the sides open for airflow, or add walls for shelter and privacy. Wallaroo 3x3m, 3x4.5m and 3x6m pop-up combos include walls, a door panel and a mesh panel. Many marquees have removable sidewalls with window and door panels, so you can change the layout on the day.

3. Check the materials

Wallaroo pop-up gazebos use a powder-coated steel frame and a 260D polyester roof with a PVC coating. Marquee frames and roof materials vary by model, so compare the details in each listing.

4. Plan how you will secure it

Every gazebo and marquee needs to be properly secured because of its large surface area. Use pegs and guy ropes on grass, and gazebo weights on hard surfaces. Add more anchoring in exposed sites.

5. Think about transport and storage

A Wallaroo 3x3m pop-up gazebo weighs about 22kg and folds into its carry bag. Large marquees are much heavier, with the 7x12m model at about 194kg gross, so plan for transport and extra helpers.

Looking after your gazebo

  • Wipe the frame and roof with mild soap and water after use.
  • Dry it completely before packing it away to help prevent mould.
  • Store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.
  • Check joints, fabric and fastenings before each use.

Gazebo and marquee FAQs

How many people fit in a 3x3 gazebo?

A 3x3m gazebo covers 9 square metres, which suits about 9 people standing or 4 to 6 people seated at a table. Allow less if you add a buffet, a bar or other furniture.

How many people fit in a 6x3 marquee?

A 6x3m marquee covers 18 square metres, which suits about 18 people standing or 9 to 12 people seated at tables.

What size marquee do I need for 50 guests?

For 50 people standing, look at a 6x12m marquee. For 50 people seated at tables, a 7x12m marquee is the better fit, with room left for little else, so consider extra cover for food and drinks.

What is the difference between a pop-up gazebo and a marquee?

In our range, pop-up gazebos have a one-piece folding frame that opens as a single unit, so they are quick to put up and suit regular use. Event marquees use a steel frame that needs assembly, and they suit larger gatherings.

Are your gazebos and marquees waterproof?

They are designed for mild weather, including light rain. Roof ratings vary between models, so check each listing. They are not intended for storms, heavy rain or strong winds.

Can I use a gazebo in windy conditions?

Our gazebos and marquees are designed for light winds only. Secure them with pegs, guy ropes and weights, and take them down if the wind picks up. How much anchoring you need depends on your site, so always allow for the large surface area.

How do I secure a gazebo on concrete or pavers?

Use weights where you cannot use pegs. Our gazebo base pods attach to the legs and fill with water or sand. A set of 4 weighs about 36kg with water or up to 64kg with wet sand.

Can I leave a gazebo or marquee up permanently?

No. They are occasional-use products for day or night events and should not be left up for more than one day.

How long does a pop-up gazebo take to set up?

With 2 or 3 people, a 3x4.5m or 3x6m pop-up gazebo takes just a few minutes. Event marquees take longer because the frame needs to be assembled.

Do you sell walls, roofs and other spare parts?

Yes. We stock replacement roofs, frames, wall sets, door and mesh walls, carry bags and weights. See our gazebo spare parts.

Is shipping free?

Shipping is free on most items. Orders are sent from our 18,000 sqm facility in Melbourne, and you can call us on 1300 456 283, 7 days a week.
